A Few Other Things to Consider When Choosing Your Disney World Resort Hotel

Over the last few weeks, we\’ve talked about several considerations when choosing your hotel…location, budget, and general expectations for your hotel of choice. The last few things you might consider are hotel theming and refurbishment schedules.

Is the feel of the hotel important to your vacation?

Do you want to feel like you’re still at Disney at your hotel with larger than life iconic characters or princess themed rooms, or is a posh Victorian hotel more your jam? Fun beach theme because that’s your favorite place to vacation or Pacific Northwest theme because it’s soothing and quiet?

Sometimes this depends on the ages of any children on the vacation. Young girls who love princesses? Maybe a Little Mermaid room at Art of Animation or a Royal Guest room at Port Orleans Riverside is a good fit! Have all boys with you? A Cars themed family suite at Art of Animation or a pirate theme room at Caribbean Beach could be perfect!

If you prefer to stay at high end hotels, you might consider the Riviera Resort or the classic Contemporary Resort.

Don\’t forget that any Disney hotel is going to be staffed by Disney Cast Members who do customer service right! They’re going to make your stay even more special, and you\’ll never leave the Disney magic. There’s way more magic at a Disney hotel than the Holiday Inn Express at Disney Springs or the Hampton Inn & Suites on International Drive.

Do you want to see fireworks, a lake/lagoon, or a castle from your room?

If a view isn’t important to you, focus on a standard view room at any of the resort hotels. Value resorts and Moderate resorts, for example, may have room categories that list a view but since they do not have balconies, a view is pretty much what you see when you open your door to leave the room! A deluxe hotel or a villa will offer balconies and often a true view of something—woods, lake or lagoon, African savanna, Magic Kingdom’s fireworks in the distance, or even a view of Cinderella castle.

Keep in mind that you\’re going to pay more that awesome view, and a standard view room will always save you some money. If you\’re planning to see the fireworks in person inside the park, maybe the fireworks view room isn\’t worth the extra money!

Finally, is construction occurring at your hotel a deal breaker? Do you mind if the main feature pool is closed during your stay?

This might make or break your vacation. Disney is constantly updating parks and resort hotels for a superb guest experience. Unfortunately, that means that sometimes there will be construction at your resort. This could mean something as simple as new furniture is going in the rooms, that one of the resort pools is closed, or that there is a major renovation going on that uses loud tools! Generally loud construction is reserved for daytime hours when most guests are in the parks, but if you have little ones who will need a quiet nap or if missing out on the main pool is a deal breaker, you should change your hotel!

All Disney World hotels have more than one pool accessible by guests. If the main feature pool is closed, you will still have the option of the smaller quiet pools. For a visit in July, pools may be an important part of your vacation whereas a trip in January may be less important!
