Sailing with Disney Cruise Line During the Pandemic

If you have been considering a cruise on a Disney ship, now is absolutely the time to go! I recently had the opportunity to cruise aboard the Disney Fantasy. It is one of 5 ships (5th being currently built) in their fleet and is one of the largest out of the 5. Usually, this ship holds 4000 passengers and 1458 crew, but when I was on board, the passenger count was much lower. A lower occupancy rate certainly has its advantages. Below are a few of the many reasons that now is the time to cruise, especially with Disney.

First, many sailings are discounted nicely. You rarely see any discounts on Disney Cruise Line, so take advantage of it while you can.

Another reason to cruise now is the ships are sailing way below full capacity which allows everyone to be socially distanced pretty much at all times! My recent cruise was about 25% capacity of a normal sailing. This means dinner with only your travel party and even more personalized attention by the servers (is that is even possible?).

With the ship being so empty, this also means Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island, feels like your OWN private island! To help ease the process of getting on Castaway Cay, Disney uses a virtual queue to disembark the ship, so everyone is spaced out and not all gathered at the gangways at once. Don’t worry though, there are plenty of chairs available everywhere and they are socially distanced to keep everyone’s health and safety in mind.

In the evenings, the shows in the Walt Disney Theatre or the Buena Vista Theatre are also socially distanced with seating planned out. The Cast Members seat your party so that you are safely distanced from others. Also, on my 4-night cruise, each show was shown 4 times. (2 on one day and 2 on another).

Disney even has two firework viewings to allow everyone the space needed on deck. The cleanliness of a Disney ship is always above and beyond anything I have experienced in the cruise industry, but if you can imagine, they are cleaner than ever before! The time and attention to detail they take when it comes to the presentation of their ships is like nothing I have seen duplicated in the industry.

Of course, cruising during this time isn’t for everyone. Being vaccinated or not is certainly a choice you must make for you and your family. Wishdrawals will be here and ready to help you book a cruise when you feel the time is right. If you are vaccinated and are ready to cruise, it is full steam ahead, so ALL ABOARD!
